On October 8th, the XTERRA Estrella Mountain Trail Run will reignite the XTERRA Arizona Trail Run Series. The Arizona Series made its debut on the XTERRA Trail Run schedule in 2011 and has been going strong since. Due to its unique climate and geography, the races in the Arizona Series offer some of the most challenging conditions in the area.

Because the heat can get extreme during the summer months in Arizona, the series does not schedule races during that time of the year. The races are usually held in the fall, winter, and early spring.

“During those months, it can actually be pretty nice running weather,” race director Shannon Lindner said. “Especially in the morning.”

Each race in the series offers two courses – a “short” course of less than 10 kilometers, and a “long” course that is usually 20 kilometers or longer. All races are open to runners of all ages and skill levels.

The 8th annual XTERRA Estrella Mountain Trail Run on October 8th will take place on the very popular competitive loops at Estrella Mountain Regional Park. There are several major hills and a quite a few twists and turns as the course winds through the valley desert.

The 8k race will consist of one clockwise technical loop while the 20k will consist of one clockwise technical loop and one long loop, which will be run counterclockwise.

The last half mile of the race has a wide descent to help propel you across the finish line. The event also includes a huge post-race breakfast spread, which will taste great after all of those miles!
