XTERRA Allatoona Creek is Georgia Series Finale

On August 12th, the XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series will have its final race of 2017, in Allatoona Creek Park. Runners will have a choice between an 8.7 mile course and a 3.4 mile course over well-groomed trails and tree-lined paths.

“We’ve had a great season of trail racing,” said race director, Tim Schroer. “In the XTERRA Deep South Trail Run last month, Matt Haley led easily, which wasn’t a surprise. But we had a really close finish for second and third, which you don’t always see in a 9-mile race.”

In the women’s race at XTERRA Deep South, the first three finishers – Cady Nix, Jameisha Washington, and Christine Curtin – came in within seconds of each other.

Curtin is having a fantastic season and is currently in first place in her 45-49 age group for the XTERRA Georgia Series Standings. Also look for Brittany Hewell at XTERRA Allatoona Creek. Hewell is currently in first place for the 25-29 age group while Sally Bray has a commanding lead in the 35-39 age group.

On the men’s side, Matt Haley is in first place for the series, leading the 30-34 age group.

XTERRA Allatoona Creek could could be the deciding race to determine the series winner of the 40-44 age group. David Jiminez is the current leader with 482 points but Simone Bergese is in second place with 439 points. Because first place in each age group is awarded 100 points, there’s no telling what will happen next month.

The athlete with the most points in each age group is awarded a ticket to the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in Ogden, Utah, in September.

“It’s hard to believe the series is coming to an end,” said Schroer. “But it’s hard to be sad because the first race of the 2017-2018 season will follow right behind on September 16th, with XTERRA Harbins Park. half-marathon and 5K.”
