XTERRA Chile Welcomed to XTERRA Pan American Tour

On April 1st, the XTERRA Pan American Tour will introduce its newest member – XTERRA Chile.  The event will be held in San Bernardo, 30-minutes outside of Santiago.

The race will include a 1.5K swim with two laps in Lake Maipo, a brand new ski lake set alongside the XTERRA Village, followed by 30K mountain bike and 8K trail run.  The 2-lap bike course will be fun for riders of all skill levels with some challenging altitude gains and plenty of room for passing.  And the trail run will take competitors around the lake and into mountains revealing stunning Chilean landscape views.

A Sprint course is also offered on April 1 (750m swim, 10K mountain bike and 3K trail run), and the following day is equally as action packed with the XTERRA Kids triathlon for children from 7-15 years old and XTERRA Relay races over the full distance.  The weekend will be filled with Chilean-style fun and hospitality.

With US$7,500 in elite prize money on the line, competition will be fierce in this first-time event.  Fittingly, Chilean Olympian Barbara Riveros (pictured) is confirmed to race.  “Chicka” is no stranger to XTERRA and reached the podium in XTERRA races all over the world, including two second place finishes at the prestigious XTERRA World Championship.  France’s Morgane Riou, who finished 5th in the 20016 XTERRA European Tour, American Kara LaPoint, who ranked 3rd in last year’s XTERRA Pan American Tour, and  Brazil’s Sabrina Gobbo, 5th in the 2016 Pan Am Tour, will be there to challenge her.

In the men’s race, Chile’s Felipe “Pipo” Barraza, who took 4th place last year in a stacked field at the XTERRA Pan American Championship, will be racing, along with Benjamin Munizaga.  Legendary Argentinian triathlete, Oscar Galindez will also compete. He finished 4th at XTERRA Argentina last year, as will 2012 Argentinian Olympian Gonzalo Tellechea. Also racing are American Ian King, 7th on last year’s Pan American Tour, and Frenchman, Julien Buffe.

The producers of XTERRA Chile are passionate and experienced triathletes.  Rodrigo Ballivian is the oldest international distributor of XTERRA Wetsuits & Boards, and his partner, Emilio Ramirez, brings a wealth of experience in event production.  His company Milpies, produces numerous high profile road triathlons as well as mountain bike races.

Chile promises a great XTERRA race experience and a spectacular travel experience rich in natural beauty, culture and history.  It is home to Patagonia, Easter Island, the high Andean plateau, and vineyards producing some of the world’s best wine.  Don’t miss it.
