XTERRA Alabama Trail Series Finale

The XTERRA Alabama Trail Run Series season-finale takes place Sunday at Oak Mountain State Park with 5k/10k and 20k races suitable for the whole family.

The “Real. Authentic. Racing.” mantra of XTERRA has certainly captured the imagination of the trail running community here in Alabama.

“There are a lot of runners who want to participate in races in Alabama,” said series director Tim Schroer. “We’ve seen it grow every year, and think it can grow even more.”

Alabama has some of the most scenic – and challenging – trail systems in the Southern United States, and runners of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in the XTERRA Alabama Trail Run Series. The race distances in the Series vary from a 5K to a half marathon.

“There really is something for everyone in this series, from experts to beginners,” Schroer said. “And every venue offers a different challenge, so runners have to be ready each time.”

On Sunday XTERRA will recognize the XTERRA Alabama Trail Run Series Champions – those who scored the most points during the course of the season – with a regional title and a free entry to represent Alabama at the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in Utah this September. And the race winners in each division of the 20K will also earn an entry into the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship in Hawaii this December.

The real prize for all involved is the trail paradise known as Oak Mountain State Park, which was rated as one of the Top 25 Trails in America by Runner’s World Magazine and has been granted “destination race” status more than once.
